Research Assistant

Background:
The WWF Philippines, the world’s largest conservation organization and the Bank of the Philippines Islands have embarked on a project entitled Business Risk Assessment and Management for Climate Change Adaptation. The aim of the project is to provide the stakeholders a more practical understanding of site-specific business vulnerabilities and risks and thereby a more detailed basis to craft adaptation policies and actions to reduce or eliminate preventable losses brought about by recent climatic changes.
The project will involve key cities in generating socio-economic baselines focusing on on-site sectors most likely to be adversely affected by climate change; and facilitation of participative scenario planning processes, in order to provide stakeholders with a more comprehensive grasp of likely future trends for these four sites. Broad-stroke climate impacts are already known for the Philippines; however, city-specific, high resolution and detailed information are still unavailable to allow pertinent and practical site-relevant risk management decisions. This project will provide that needed information through a highly specific business risk assessment.
Scope of Work:
1. Provide technical input on research and assessment works and conduct various data collection (quantitative and qualitative);
2. Assist in developing and maintaining city-specific database for a range of climatic, economic and social variables on a time-series basis;
3. Provide research assistance to the Project Manager and third party consultants in the preparation of materials for the forthcoming scenario planning and/or collect studies/reports undertaken as well as other documents relating to a variety of climatic, economic and social indicators from city, regional, and national sources;
4. Maintain regular communications with and seek advice from the Project Manager to ensure accuracy of the data collected while maintaining regular contacts with related institutions and network of researchers;? and
5. Liaise with relevant government and private institutions, including regular visits to collect data and update the city database as appropriate for research, and maintain research files and documents for future use.
Expected Deliverables:
1. Quantitative and qualitative data of city-specific climatic, social and economic indicators.
2. Database for a range of climatic, economic and social variables on a time-series basis.
3. Studies/reports collected as well as other documents relating to a variety of climatic, economic and social indicators from city, regional, and national sources.
Qualifications and Experience:
Undergraduate degree in any social, finance or economic related discipline with minimal skills in data processing packages such as Microsoft Excel. Experience using any econometric platform i.e., Stata, Eviews, SPSS preferred but not required.
Team player, able to work respectfully and cooperatively with colleagues and stakeholders; and
Excellent communication skills in both spoken and written Filipino and English and proficiency in the local dialect.
